same filter that i use on my 2012 jetta gli 2.0t iv always changed the oil and i also have a upgraded turbo (350hp on 93 oct) and intake exhaust since it had 50k miles on it been chipped since 5k miles and the car still runs strong the abuse iv but it throught from 2012 till now im amazed at the car and engine still running strong i have a hard time believing any american made cars vehicles could have handled what this car has seriously... now have only 183k miles on it so shes still breaking in

Mahle is made better --- but both are good for the job. What you you should never fit are the real cheap filters, nver try to save a few £s/$s on a filter.

These filters are used in the SRT engines and would be a good option to use on the Hemi 5.7’s and 6.4’s…the factory filters for those engines are super small and must restrict flow in time…

Also MANN factory has its own forest where they plant, grow, harvest then make "paper" for use in their production.

You should calculate the area of the inlet holes to see if there is a difference.

My 2001 yukon runs better with the smaller filter

Some Mann filteres are produced in Slovenia, by competitom Coopers Fiamm :) But Coopers Fiam filter is 30 percent cheaper :)

The best oil is changed oil, simply put 🤷🏽‍♂️

The Motorcraft FL1-A is the greatest oil filter ever made.

The last Fram PH8 I bought (20+ years ago) had a small pin hole in the sheet metal body; a fine stream of oil shot out when the engine was running and warm. Luckily, the leak was noticed before the engine ran out of oil and the Fram filter was replaced. Ever since then, Wix or Napa gold for general use. Synthetic poly filter material like Royal Purple uses for engines that sit alot and wait years between oil changes; paper filter materials can break down over time vs synthetic poly filter materials. Cheap Super Tech filter and diesel oil for worn engines that need an oil change. Cheap clean new oil and filter is better than expensive dirty used oil and filter.

Seems like Bosch quality control leaves a lot to be desired. However, the STP is made in China and I try to avoid Chinese products whenever possible. Given I was only able to choose between the 2 of them though, I would go with the STP.

Agree. Whichever is cheaper/more readily available. Probably made in the same factory just at different times.

I assume the more filter pleat the harder to engine has to pump oil and libricate the engine, more doesn’t necessarily mean better, the newer one having a more refined filter pleat makes up for the more filter pleat the old one has.

I don't like any of those small engine MFR oil filters at all. Most times you can substitute a Fram 3614 or equivalent (which has a lot of automotive apps) or a Wix 51348. I've used all of them and I like the Purolator One the best for these engines. The Fram is 'OK' but the inlet holes a sort of small compared to the others. I've used to Wix XP and NAPA Gold versions too. I just switched from the Purolator to the Fram (Ultra) and noticed the oil pressure was a couple pounds higher cold and a little lower hot vs the One. I change oil/filter every season or 30 hours. They charge a lot for those Kohler filters. You could probably get a premium Wix or Fram or Purolator for less.

I bought microgard filter finally get to use in my 09 Tacoma. I can't remove an OEM oil filter when first try to change oil.

Makes me wonder if they are selling the more pletes and bigger media as their max filter. But I wanted to guess closer to 1980 as usually took them a year to list the applications and the FL1A was a new for 1979 release (D9AZ) means D9=1979 was year it came out, originally for a A body car (if I remember LTD) and Z means it’s a service part if I remember my Ford coding

BG products are the bees knees man. The carbon blast when used in the carbon blast canister really cleans the whole intake out to and then you take the vehicle for a drive and watch all the smoke roll out like a freight train😂. Shtt it awesome💪😎

Wife’s escape at 160K on the 2.0 EB with FL 910 filters. The key is not to extend past 5-6k on these direct injection engines. The fuel dilution is so bad at 8-10k if you try to extend it out. 5w-30 for EB not 5w-20

Wix XP has great capacity for how much crap it holds, but the efficiency or ability to capture smallest wear particles is absolutely horrible vs the capacity and the high efficiency (small particle capture) are only challenged by Amsoil and the Fram Endurance (same exact filter). The Purolator Boss only edges the out the Fram Endurance and Amsoil with slightly less flow restriction. Watch the oil filter test series on Brand Ranks channel!

Agree that the Mexico-made Bosch is pretty low quality, but why would you compare a low-end Bosch Workshop filter to a high-end STP? Shouldn't the comparison be to the standard blue STP filter?

If i recall i think that old filter was about $3 in 1980 - that would be about $15 in 2024 dollars - so not surprised then new one that's still only $4.50 has a lot less in it - it's effectively 1/3 the cost.

After some final research. I would go with the Mann Filter. Looks for me like it filters out a wide range of particle sizes "just right". But i buy only MANN becaues the prices here are more than alright at my distributor.

I am assuming that the STP filter is manufactured by Champ Labs! Looks like a very good filter. I have been noticing on your sight, alot of Mfg"s seem to be sloppy with the glue! (that BOSH filter is terrible) have you ever asked a manufacture what the melting temperature of that glue is? If the glue melting point is higher then extreme oil temperatures gets, then there in no problem. If its lower then the extreme end of oil temperatures, then there is a problem of it getting into your oiling system on the car.

FL-910S clearly superior and obviously made by Purolator (oval holes). When my daughter got her Ford Focus, I bought a half dozen FL-910S filters. Even when I have her oil changed by a shop, I hand them a Motorcraft filter to install.

To me, the main difference between the two is the price. I have a Fram endurance ready to go on my car the next oil change. I'm glad that I bought it. Another great video with great info. Thank you.

I'm guessing most oil filter design changes are to allow for synthetic or semi-synthetic oils, which many cars today require. The FL500S is clearly made by Purolator (as is any filter with oval holes).

I've bought a few old Fram oil filters (all orange) but I steer clear of any showing rust. That just means its been stored in a damp environment. Now you should compare a current AC-Delco filter with an old AC-Delco filter. I bet there would be some interesting differences with those too.

Oil filters are cheap, engines are expensive. Why ever buy a Fram?
